Anyway you look at it, you will need to have a website for your new business. Your own space on the internet for people to find you and find out what you’re business is all about. We highly recommend using an online website builder over a custom built website to start with, as they are quick to set up and cheaper than hiring a professional website designer. Website builders can help you make your new website, without needing to design or code anything yourself. Most allow you to start from a template and customise it to suit your brand and your needs.
Complexity, features and prices vary from service to service. So which is the best? For me it really comes down to one of two options; Shopify or Squarespace. Are you going to be selling a product? If so, Shopify would be your best option. If you're not, and are just looking for a website to promote your business then Squarespace will be a great fit.
Squarespace is great for all round business. It is really quick and easy to build a professional website.
I would select the "The Business plan" if I was building a website for a small business that doesnt need for an online store.
AUD $35 per month (AUD $25 per month if paid annually)
If you're going to have an online store, or plan to sell some items online. Then it's difficult for me to suggest another option than Shopify. It's exactly what it was designed for. It works when you're small, and it works great at scale.
I would recommend the "Shopify Basic plan" if I was building a website for a small business who wanted to sell products online.
AUD $42.50 per month (US $29 per month)
Wix is very similar to Squarespace, but I think overall Squarespace has nicer looking templates. Wix has a lot more templates, but in this case more isn't necessarily better.
Wordpress claim that in 2019 34% of all websites on the internet are powered by Wordpress, that is pretty damn impressive. Because they are so large, you can find a large range of templates and plugins to use. However there is a big problem with Wordpress, and that's security. Templates, plugins and the nature of it being open source can create vulnerabilities that can be exploited. This is the main reason we suggest staying away from Wordpress if you are not an expert using the platform.
